PROJECTS ON HAND

LTTD THERMAL DESALINATION

3 X 150 M3/day

  • Type - Low temperature thermal desalination (LTTD)

  • Location - Lakshadweep islands (Amini, Chetlet & Kadamat)

  • Purpose - Potable water for people in Islands

  • Client - NIOT / COMACOE

  • Capacity - 3 x 150 m3/day

  • The  plant  runs  on  the  principle  of  Low Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) that involves evaporating warm surface seawater (at about 28oC) in a Flash Chamber maintained under vacuum (at about 27 mbar) and consequently liquefying the resulting vapour in a Condenser. The coolant water for the condenser is drawn using the thermal gradient available in the ocean, namely using the feature of reduction of ocean water temperature with an increase in depth. A long pipe is deployed in the ocean to draw the cold water (at about 12oC) from a distance of about 1000m from a depth of about 350-400m.

MED/TVC THEMAL DESALINATION

2 X 250 M3/day

  • Type - Multiple Effect Distillation / Thermal Vapour Compressor

  • Location - Orissa

  • Purpose - Fullfill water needs at Odisha Sands Complex (OSCOM)
of Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL)

  • Client - BARC / AIPL

  • Capacity - 2 x 250 m3/day

  • The  plant can be installed where steam at 5-10 bar(a) is available from turbine bleed or Auxiliary PRDS system.

  • GOR of 4-10 can be achieved based on pressure of steam

  • Most compact thermal desalination configuration with least power consumption and least cooling water
